Hello, learning friends! Happy Thursday!
We're checking in today to ask a very important question...
Est-ce qu'un hotdog est un sandwich? Is a hot dog a sandwich?
We all had some great reasons why a hot dog is a sandwich and why it is not, and we were able to respond to and build on the ideas of our peers using the sentence structures above. Many of us ended up taking a 50/50 (agree/disagree) stance for various reasons.
We 'settled' the debate once and for all by watching this short video clip: Obama Settles It
What do you think? Is a hot dog a sandwich?

Stay warm! :)

Hello, learning friends! Welcome to the last week of January!
In Math this morning, we started with a "Qui suis-je" activity and then, with a partner, were tasked with writing our own. Mme Careen is going to check them and type them up this week, and then use them as our class starter-questions! Cool!
In Français this morning, we got to work on typing up and editing our "Ma fête" paragraphs. We are typing our text in Microsoft Word and using an online grammar platform (bonpatron.com) to revise our texts. The criteria is now posted in Showbie for us to access. It will be our job to review our text against the writing checklists to ensure everything is complete before submitting our work. Please ask me about my writing: What is the theme for my party? How is the editing coming along? What verb tense are we primarily using in our text? What is a "B.B.A.T" adjective?
Have a great week! :)

Hello, learning friends!
Here's a quick look at our Friday morning learning.
In Math, we played battleship with a partner to review placing and identifying coordinates on a cartesian plane. Please ask me how my game went!
In Science, after doing a short review of the properties of fluids, we spent some time with our dear friend, Bill Nye, who also helped us review some important fluid info!
Socially distanced Bill Nye watching. |
After the video, we had a short block of choice work time to:
* work on our 'grand image de fluides' (see picture below)
* review for our Science assessment on Monday
* peer-edit our fête extraordinaire paragraphe
Please ask me about my 'grande image de fluides,' my Français paragraph and what I worked on during our choice time. Also, please remind me to review for our short Science assessment on Monday. (Outline posted in Showbie).
Have a great weekend! :)

Hello, learning friends! Happy Monday!
Today in Math we were very lucky to have Mme McKenzie join us to introduce a geometric art activity.
After making a unique tracer as a template, we began creating a unique art piece by rotating the tracer different ways to create a full-page design.
Our next step will be to colour our page before outlining the edges to complete the puzzle-piece-math-geo-transformation look! Stay tuned for pictures of our finished projects, coming later this week! :)

Hello, learning friends! Happy Friday!
This morning in Math we continued our work with geometric transformations by studying different logos. Is there a rotation, a reflection or translation?
In Science, we shared every day examples of the five properties of fluids. Our weekend homework is to continue observing the world around us to see if we can notice even more!
We finished our morning in Français and started a small debate unit - "Les débats absurdes" - which will eventually turn into the base structure of our COVID-modified concours this year. Today's opinion topic:
"Est-ce que le céréale est de la soupe?" - "Is cereal a soup?"
Our goal today was to listen to understand, not to listen to respond. Meaning, we were each allowed to share our thoughts without rebuttal to understand the perspective of our peers. We shared many interesting and fun ideas and offered a whole new perspective on soup and cereal! Please ask me what I think... is cereal a soup?
Happy debating! Happy weekend! :)

Happy Wednesday!
Today in Math we solved the last part of our reading question that we started earlier this week.
Please ask me about what strategy I used to figure out the answer. As a class, we approached solving the problem from a few different ways, and it was a great discussion to see what worked well for each of us.

Hello! Happy Monday!
This morning in Math, we worked in group to solve the first two parts of the following word problem.
Please ask me about my calculation strategies. What can I do well and what are some skills I need to review?

Hello, learning friends! Happy Thursday!
Today, we had our Math class in the gym and were tasked with solving the following question:
If you write out the numbers from 1 to 1000, how many times will you write the number 7?
We all approached the question with different strategies, and many of us were able to solve it and move onto to extension of 1-10 000! Bravo!

It's great to be back! We were full of energy, smiles and great winter-break stories this morning and were happy to see our classmates once again.
This morning we did a "Trouve quelqu'un qui" bingo-type activity which allowed us to move around the room and ask questions (in French) to our classroom friends.
Mme then read us the story Rouge by Michael Hall.
