Bird Watchers, a book and our Favourite Holiday!

Hello, learning friends! Happy Friday!

Here's today's Math puzzle problem: Bird watching!

A bird watcher is walking through the garden to watch the birds. She always enters from the bottom left and leaves through the top right WITHOUT retracing her steps. She always ensures she sees the same amount of birds of each colour. What route should she follow through the garden?

Here are some puzzles for you to try!

Friday's book!

And, vacation time! Yahoo!
Antartica, a stay-cation, a moonlight dinner at the Eiffle Tower in Paris, a vacation from sisters and a trip somewhere warm!
These all sound wonderful! Bon voyage!

Wishing you all a safe and restful break! :)

Math Number Pyramids and Decade Day!

Hello, learning friends! Happy Thursday!

Today in Math we tackled another number puzzle that really got our brains thinking!

Write a digit (1 - 9) in each square so that the number is the sum, difference, product or quotient of the two squares directly underneath.

We learned that we can be soooo close to solving the pyramid and then one wrong number can cause the whole thing to fall apart. See above for a few puzzles to try!

Also, today was our FAVOURITE decade day!
We dressed up in all sorts of decades: 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and prehistoric times!

Yes, yes, yes we do! We have spirit how 'bout you? 😎

Cible 100 + RPS + Sports Day!

Happy Wednesday!

Here's a quick peak at our morning:

First: Math! Target 100.

Add a digit before or after the numbers in the boxes so that the sum of each row and column is equal to 100.
It is not as easy as think!

This is hard! Our brains grew so much this morning!

Here are some squares to try. How many can you solve?!

Second: In honour of our FAVOURITE sports day, we read one of Mme's FAVOURITE 'sports-related' books: The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors. We then had 1 minute to play as many games of rock-paper-scissors as possible! So fun!

Third: Here we are in our FAVOURITE sports gear. So much spirit! :)

Thanks for another great morning, everyone! :)

Pyjamas and chess boards

Hello! Happy Monday!

How many squares are on a chessboard? That's what we were tasked with finding out this morning in Math.

Please ask me if my group found the answer and what strategy we used to find it.

Also, today was pyjama day! Fun!

Have a great week! :)

Design Process Tuesday!

Hello! Happy Tuesday!

We had a busy morning inventing so many different versions of a flying machine (aircraft) using a straw, different types of paper (cardstock, paper, construction paper), masking tape and staples.

After we tested each prototype, we drew a diagram and made observations on how it flew. We then made changes to our aircraft, redrew it and tested it again. After creating at least four different prototypes, we had to conclude which one flew the best and explain why.

There were some incredibly creative, never-before-seen aircraft models created this morning. Please ask me about my aircraft: What did I create and how well did it fly?

Consecutive sums, "la poussée," poems and more!

Hello! Happy Friday!

We started our day with Math, working in randomized groups of three to explore the question:

In how many ways can a number (example: 105) be expressed as the sum of at least two consecutive positive integers?

Please ask me what consecutive sums my group was able to find!

In Science, we continued our study of the Air and Flight cluster with a discussion about "la poussée" (thrust) - the force that "pushes" a flying object forward. We discussed Sir Isaac Newton's Third Law of Motion - For every action force there is a reaction force equal in strength and opposite in direction - and connected it to different everyday examples, such as: swimmers pushing off the wall to advance quickly through water; sprint runners pushing back on their starting block to have a quick start in their race; helicopter propellers spinning at high speeds, pushing air downward with great force in order to rise off the ground. What other examples of Newton's Third Law of Motion can you think of?

We ended our morning with our second group of poem presentations and were once again treated to great 'performances' by all! Félicitations à Jacob, Ava, Mannix, Huston, Karstyn, Akira, Kacie, Elliott, Tate and Cayden!

Have a great weekend! :)

Jeux de cartes - Les nombre entiers

Hello! Happy Monday!

We started our day in Math with a fun game to compare positive and negative integers.
The red suits represented negative numbers and the black suits represented positive numbers.
We recorded the cards on our game sheet, identifying who had the higher card.
At the end of 10 rounds, we put our card values into order from smallest to biggest.

This game can easily be played at home! Please ask me to play a round or two! :)

Have a great week!

Kim et ses bonbons, Bernoulli et son principe

Hello! Happy Thursday!

Today in Math we worked in randomized groups of three to solve and explain our thinking for the Math word problem "Kim et les bonbons." The main objective was to collaborate with our peers to 'show our complete thinking' of how we arrived at the answer.

After a set amount of time to write out our answer, we did a gallery walk to see how other groups solved the problem. Tomorrow we will work individually to solve the same question, taking time to organize and write our best thinking based on what we saw modelled today.

Today in Science we started learning about Bernoulli's Principle and had the chance to go outside to complete 2 different Bernoulli demonstrations. (Unfortunately, Mme forgot her phone inside so couldn't snap a picture of us in action.) We explored how to remove a ping pong ball from a funnel (without tipping it upside down) and, using a strip of a paper and fast moving air (created by our breath) we were able to raise the strip of paper up to mimic the wing of an airplane!

Please ask me about today's Science demonstrations and how Bernoulli's Principle can explain what we observed.
