Poules, vaches et cochons!

Hello! Happy Friday!

Today we worked in randomized groups of 3 to solve Math word problems involving cows, chickens and pigs. Through collaboration with our peers, we solved the problems using different strategies and approaches and learned that we can't sneak in a three-legged cow just to make our answer work! 🐮

(See us in action HERE and HERE!)

Wishing you all a happy weekend!

Le prince et le chevalier

As I Love to Read month comes to a close, we took time to read one of Mme's favourite books of the moment in class this morning, Le prince et le chevalier. This story takes the traditional fairy tail concept of 'prince searches for love and battles a fiery dragon to save his kingdom' and adds in a new happily-ever-after twist! 💕

Have a sunshiny day! :)

Hé Ho! Happy Friday!

Hello, learning friends! Happy Friday!
Today, we celebrated Festival du Voyageur by weaving our very own mini ceinture flechée bookmark.
We also had a chance to watch a video about how to make a snow sculpture at home and watched/listened to music by Ça Claque (MUSIC here. 2021 CONCERT here.)

Have a great weekend! Bon festival! :)

Happy 100 Day! :)

Hello! Happy Thursday! Happy 100 Day!

Today we celebrated 100 days of school and had so much fun learning in 100-themed ways!

First up was a Math question challenge. Working with a partner, we solved different Math equations and used the answers to colour in specific squares on a 100 Grid to find the hidden message.

Next up, we headed to the gym for a 100-Second Challenge! The goal: to estimate and then test how many of a certain activity we could complete in 100 seconds. Activities included: push-ups, writing our name, blinking our eyes, chair sits and more!

At the end of the activity, we calculated the +/- difference between our prediction and our tested total. We'll definitely feel our arms and legs tomorrow! :)

(See us in action by clicking HERE, HERE and HERE!)

We ended our 100-day celebration with 2 final activities: a would-you-rather tournament and an Amazing-Race-type Math challenge.

After much debate and some pretty close votes, "100 minutes of Phys. Ed" was the would-you-rather winner! And, we all did SO well with the Math challenge, too! Bravo! :)

What a great way to celebrate 100 days of learning! Here's to 100 more! :)

I Read Canadian Day!

Hello, learning friends! Happy Wednesday!

Today, to celebrate I Read Canadian Day, Mme read us the book, L'ours qui aimait les arbres by New Brunswick author Nicholas Oldland. How would you react if a grizzly bear gave you a big bear hug?

We ended the morning in Math, working with a partner or in a team of three to solve a PEDMAS puzzle. Our brains were working hard! Congrats to the groups who were able to solve the puzzle - and to all the groups who came SO close! :)

Have a great afternoon! :)

Hello! Happy Friday!

We had a great morning together solving Math puzzles, working on our CFOO presentations, reading the story Journée pyjama by Robert Munsch and working in groups to find the meanings for different French expressions with the word 'coeur' in them.

Socks and PEDMAS!

Happy Thursday!

Today we showed up in crazy socks, listened to Robert Munsch read his story Smelly Socks and then put our "PEDMAS" skills to the test colouring a mystery Math picture. What could it be?!

Have a great afternoon! Stay warm!

Is Water Wet?

Hello, learning friends! Happy Wednesday!

In today's I Love to Read news, we ready Just One Goal by Robert Munsch as it was the inspiration behind today's hockey-themed spirit dress up day.

We ended our morning with another silly debate - Est-ce que l'eau est mouillé? (Is water wet?)

Today, Mme called on everyone to stand and share their opinion as least once during our discussion period, and we all did such a great job! Bravo! :)

Stay tuned for our next silly debate topic... you never know what we'll be discussing next! :)

Priorité des Opérations!

Hello! Happy Friday!

Our morning of learning included: listening to Group B's CFOO presentations in Français, watching a video of a real-life "Up!" house getting lifted into the air by hundreds of HUGE helium balloons in Science, and working in groups to solve today's Math challenge: "Fantastic Four."

Task: Make the numbers 0 - 16 using four 4s and any operations.

Please ask me how my group and I did. What numbers were we able to solve for? How did the order of operations help (or hinder) our progress?

Have a great (3-day!) weekend! Stay warm!

Math Art + Does Air Have a Mass?

Hello, learning friends! Happy Wednesday!

Please allow us to share the beautiful geometric masterpieces we created as part of our "les transformations géométriques" study in Math.

Look closely... can spot a translation, a rotation and a reflection?

Please also allow us to show you our scientific side!

Today in class, using a 2L plastic bottle, an air pump and an electronic scale, we set out to determine if air has a mass. Please ask me about today's activity: What did I notice about the bottle over the course of the experiment? What happened at the end? Based on the data, does air have a mass? 🤔

Tuesday

Hello, learning friends!

We had a great morning together!

Please ask me about the tricky Quiz Mme gave us in Math this morning. She had us all scratching our heads... until we learned her Math secret!

We also had a chance to read the book La fée scientifque in honour of I Love to Read month and in preparation for our Science lab activity we're completing in class tomorrow.

Please ask me about the story, and please ask me what we'll be testing in our Science activity tomorrow.

Have a great afternoon! :)

Happy February!

Hello, families! Happy Monday!

We got our week off to a great start with...

- a "Qui suis-je?" and calcul mental in Math
- a video about 'la dilatation et la contraction' in Science
[See video here: La dilatation et contraction (0:43 - 3:00)]
- a final peer-edit of our "Ma fête extraordinaire" paragraph
- independent reading (using the computers) in Français (pictured below).

We're looking forward to a great first week of February! :)

We all agreed that reading off of a computer screen with the classroom lights turned off is the way to go!
