Hello, families! Happy Friday!
This morning in class we worked with the laptops to connect to Microsoft Teams and to explore a new Math website, Netmaths.
In Teams we were able to connect to our private channel with Mme Careen and ask a 'fake' school question to ensure everything was set-up properly. (We also sent a whole lot of love via emojis and gifs... thank you!)
On the Netmaths site, we were able to complete an introductory activity and started navigating the different tools available to us to complete our work. Exploring this site is our weekend homework task; an email explaining this was sent home from Mme Careen earlier this afternoon.
Finally, we ended our morning with a fun Français craft-ivity for Dia de los Muertos.💀 We studied an article about the holiday over the past week and today, after completing our comprehension questions, got to work on a unique craft to celebrate. Take a look at us working below. The final reveal full-class-skeleton-set will be revealed next week! :)
Have a great weekend! :)

Hello, families! Happy Wednesday!
Today was an exciting day in Science! We discovered the identities of our tomatoes groups! Woot!
Group N - Control Group. Group P - Space Tomatoes! Ta da! |
Our class gets a special certificate in appreciation of all of our excellent tomato growing! |
And, because each of us worked so hard loving our tomatoes, we got our own personalized certificate, too! |
We are certified Tomatosphere experts! :) |
Our plants are looking great! We'll be replanting them and taking them home with us soon! Tomatoes for everyone! :) |

Hello, learning families! Happy, happy Monday!
Allow us to introduce you to our new learning space!
Room 202! (Taken at lunch, which is why a few of us aren't wearing masks). |
Room 203! (Taken at lunch, which is why a few of us aren't wearing masks). |
We will be learning how to navigate learning in a 2-in-1 room over the coming weeks. With everyone's positive attitude, and with a lot of hard work, we know we can do it! :)
On top of moving to a new space, we also had a great morning of learning today.
In Math, we completed a calcul mental assessment and continued to work with les nombres premiers et composés. We are preparing for our upcoming assessment this Wednesday.
And, in Français, we took a field trip to the gym where we were treated to a great line-up of CFOO presentations. We heard reviews of restaurants, books and movies, and also learned a bit more about our classmates' favourites.
And, to top off this great Monday morning post, allow us to share a collage of all of our "Book Lover's Day" photos that were loaded in Showbie over the past two weekends. What a joy to see everyone's entire, smiling face! The best! :)
Wishing you all a super week ahead!

Hello, learning friends!
Today we settled in to learning in Room 208 for the last time - at least for the next while.
We had a great morning learning about les nombres premiers et composés and taking time to work on our graphs and observations for our Tomatosphere experiment.
Please take time to read through the agenda items below as there are many items that we are working towards finishing before the end of Term 1. Thank you all SO much for your continued support!
Have a great weekend! 😊

Hello families!
My apologies for a late post today. As you may have heard, we are on the move and will soon be learning in a new learning space. This afternoon was the first step of many in getting things set, and the time just flew by!
Please read through the agenda items below to keep track of all that is coming up before the end of Term 1. More information about what next week will look like will be shared tomorrow.
Have a lovely evening! :)

Hello, learning friends!
The end of Term 1 is fast approaching and we will be busy learning each day until then!
This morning, we made our first trip to the industrial arts room with Mr. Wenzel!
Afterwards, in Français, we listened to the Mme read us the story, Qu'est-ce que la paix, and we watched a short BrainPop video as an activating activity for the French article we will begin reading this week. (Click HERE to view!)
In Math, Mme announced our first Math assessment of this year will be Tuesday, November 17 and will assess our knowledge of factors and multiples. We then had a chance to work on questions involving factors and multiples, which we will continue working on in class tomorrow.
Reminders:
* Please complete the weekend tasks posted in Showbie as soon as possible. These tasks are not optional nor should they take long to complete.
* Conference Manager is open for conference bookings. Please see information sent from the office last week.
* A new classroom workspace: As you have now all likely read, the school division is implementing quite a few changes to middle schools that are set to take place Monday of next week. As I shared with the students in class this morning, we are all working together to do what is best for the safety of our learning community, and while constant changes are frustrating, focusing on our learning and trying our best in class each day still remains the primary goal. As I type this, plans for a new room, a new seating plan, and a new schedule are still to be determined. I thank you all for your continued patience and support as we navigate these ever-changing times together.

Hello learning friends! Happy Friday! :)
This morning in Math, we tried to beat the sneaky "percepteur persévérant" (aka: le Tax Man).
Check out the question below:
Please ask me if (and how) my partner and I were able to beat the Tax Man. |
Fast forward to Français, and many of us were able to squeeze in a "Qui suis-je" game after we finished our Suresh questions, Science lab write-up and calcul mental questions.
Please ask me about the theme of my game; who were we trying to find? |
Please be sure to read the agenda items below.
Have a great weekend! :)

Hello, learning friends!
It was a busy morning and we have much to share.
1. In Math, we worked on our second calcul mental strategy of the year, "Multiplication de la gauche." Mme made our brains work overtime this morning as we worked to complete the calculations in our heads! 🤯
2. In Science, we concluded our Tomatosphere experiment after 35 days. We wrote our final observations and drew and labeled our plant diagrams one last time. We will now continue with the graphing and explanation portions of the experiment before we officially submit our results. 🌱 🍅
3. In Français, we worked with our table groups to complete our Suresh résumé and then started planning and writing our first CFOO presentation of the year.
What is CFOO?
CFOO (Le Club Fabuleux des Orateurs et Oratrices) is a public speaking "club" (similar to its English friend TUSC) that will help students improve their oral French skills through short presentations. There are fifteen different presentation options, separated into three categories: Research, Opinion and Creativity.
For the first presentation, we will be choosing one of the five Opinion options. We will prepare a short oral presentation, fulfilling the criteria specific to our topic. (All categories are outlined on the sheet in our binder. This sheet is also posted in Showbie). Our presentation is in the form of speech, but our speeches can be take on/be supported with a variety of options: a poster, a puppet play, a poem, a painting, a PowerPoint, a movie, etc. As long as our public-speaking skills are on display, the possibilities are truly endless!
Leading up to the first presentation, we will continue discussing what we should keep in mind while making an oral presentation to the class. This will include: keeping eye contact with the audience, having a confident stance while at the front of the room, projecting our voice and speaking at a good pace with expression.
We had a short block of time to begin our presentations this morning, and, for this one time only, Mme has arranged for one additional block of time next week to allow us to prepare our presentations. However, moving forward, much of this task (finishing our speech and practicing our presentation) will be done on our own time. If we would like Mme Careen to review our speech with us before our presentation, we are welcome to make an appointment to work with her at lunch over the coming week. And, please note that any visual supports must be uploaded into Showbie in advance of presentation day.
Our first CFOO presentations are set for Monday, November 16. Mark your calendars! :)

AGENDA
1. Math: Page 3 circled questions (and an attempt of question 9 from page 2) - tomorrow (Thursday)
2. We have started working with factors in Math and I have noticed that many students are requiring the support of a multiplication table to complete their work. While using a tool to support learning is fine, taking time (daily, if possible) to practice foundational multiplication facts at home would greatly help students with their daily work at school. The more confident they are with their Math facts, the better. Please consider using the apps and websites previously emailed home and posted in Showbie as a starting point. Thank you!
3. Many students were unable to finish the special weekend homework task posted in Showbie this past weekend. All students should complete the task by the end of this week. Please see "Français - Orale," "Virle langues."
